Discover the castle

Step into the past as you explore the castle’s atmospheric corridors and grand historic rooms. From medieval priory to fortified stronghold to the family home it remains today, the castle has witnessed centuries of change—and each space tells part of its story.

Knowledgeable guides are stationed throughout, ready to share fascinating insights, stories of myths and legends, and details of how the building evolved into the cherished residence of the St Aubyn family, who still live here today.

Please note: Advance booking is essential for those wishing to visit the castle.

Venture into the gardens

Created in 1878 for Sir John St Aubyn (later the 1st Lord St Levan), this beautifully tiered garden was designed to delight—and it still does today. Once enjoyed by his large family of eleven, the garden remains a place of wonder, where striking aloes and agaves push up through the bedrock, tulbaghias dance in the breeze, and fragrant rosemary, lavender, and lampranthus cascade down the sun-warmed terraces.

Step beyond the castle walls and into a garden shaped by nature and history. Set on steep, sloping terraces, this unique space thrives in an unexpectedly mild microclimate. The granite rock absorbs warmth throughout the day, releasing it slowly after sunset, creating ideal conditions for an array of exotic and unexpected plants—even in the face of coastal winds and salty sea air.

The garden opens from 20 April, offering a perfect escape for a springtime visit this May half term.

Advance booking is essential to enjoy the full beauty of the gardens.
